Italy is ready to host another edition of the Winter Olympic Games, twenty years on from Turin 2006. Sestriere was the venue for the men’s alpine skiing events, where the discipline medals were awarded, and hosted one of the three Olympic villages for delegations and athletes from all over the world. In the speed disciplines of alpine skiing, athletes hurtled down the Banchetta along the Kandahar Nasi run, crossing the finish line in Borgata Sestriere. This hamlet of the Municipality of Sestriere was transformed for the occasion into a fantastic Olympic stadium, complete with dedicated facilities for the competitions, officials and the media, and natural stands packed with thousands of people for an unforgettable celebration of sport.
Sunday 11 January: the Milan–Cortina Sestriere Olympic Torch Relay passes through Colle della Fiamma
Twenty years after the The XX Winter Olympic Games, Turin 2006, during which the Olympic mountains of Piedmont hosted the medal events for Alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, bobsleigh, luge, skeleton, freestyle skiing and snowboarding, The Olympic flame returns to the 2,035-metre-high town of Sestriere, the highest peak in the Vialattea ski area.
SKI SHUTTLE VIALATTEA//BARDO
From 25 December 2025 to 15 March 2026, the Vialattea//Bardo Ski Shuttle will be in operation, providing a new, direct and free service between the Vialattea and Bardonecchia ski areas. The service will run from Thursday to Sunday, with several daily trips designed to make it easier for skiers to travel between the two resorts. The Ski Shuttle will stop at two convenient access points, easily accessible within the ski areas:
- SAUZE D’OULX: kick-off: Jouvenceaux chairlift to Sportina;
- BARDONECCHIA: Campo Smith, public shuttle bus stop.

From 18 December, the centre is open every day with Tours at the following times: 10.00, 11.00, 12.00 – 14.00, 15.00, 16.00. The activity offers a unique and immersive experience in nature, shared with Siberian huskies. It begins with a 15-minute theoretical briefing, followed by a 40-minute sleigh ride. An enchanting route of around 3 km, along a trail covered in snow.
