The Olympic Torch Relay in Sestriere
On Sunday 11 January, the Milan–Cortina Olympic Flame will reach Colle del Sestriere. It marks a symbolic return twenty years on from the XX Winter Olympic Games in Turin in 2006, when the mountains of Piedmont hosted the Alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, bobsleigh, luge, skeleton, freestyle skiing and snowboarding events.
The flame returns to the 2,035-metre mark in the municipality of Sestriere, the highest point of the Vialattea and an iconic venue for Olympic competitions. A moment that celebrates the region’s sporting history and its connection with the Olympics.
The Winter Olympic Games are returning to Italy
Italy is preparing to host another edition of the Winter Olympic Games, twenty years after Turin 2006. On that occasion, Sestriere was one of the main venues for the men’s alpine skiing events and hosted one of the three Olympic villages for international athletes and delegations. The speed events took place on the Kandahar Nasi run, with athletes racing down from La Banchetta to the finish line at Borgata Sestriere. For the event, the hamlet was transformed into a veritable Olympic stadium, complete with facilities for the competitions, officials and the media. The natural stands, packed with spectators, made every competition a special occasion. It remains a memory that still stands today as an unforgettable celebration of sport.
Ice skating at the Ice Skating Rinks in Sestriere
The ice rink in Sestriere is located in Piazzale Kandahar, right opposite the ski slopes. It is open from Monday to Friday from 11.00 to 17.30, whilst at weekends and on public holidays it is open from 10.00 to 19.00.
Vialattea Ski Shuttle // Bardonecchia
From 25 December 2025 to 15 March 2026, the Vialattea // Bardo Ski Shuttle will be in operation – a new free service providing a direct link between the Vialattea and Bardonecchia ski areas. The service will run from Thursday to Sunday, with several daily services designed to make it easier for skiers to travel between the two resorts.

Travel to Oulx with Trenitalia and save on your ski pass!
You can easily reach Oulx station – the gateway to the Vialattea – on Le Frecce, Intercity and Regionale services. From here, the service Vialattea Link, a bus service takes you directly to the ski slopes at Sestriere.

Sled dog excursions in Sestriere
From 18 December, the centre is open every day, with excursions at the following times: 10:00, 11:00, 12:00 – 14:00, 15:00, 16:00. The experience offers an immersive activity in the great outdoors alongside Siberian huskies.
The day begins with a 15-minute theoretical briefing, followed by A 40-minute sleigh ride. The route, which is about 3 km, runs along a snow-covered route next to the start of the Fraiteve Cable Car, creating an evocative and unforgettable adventure.
